DC trip

We don't go into DC nearly enough. It's about an hour trip and can get crowded but those are pretty lame excuses to keep us from the amazing stuff to see down there.

I took Gareth and Rosemary to the Hirshhorn museum where they and some of the French-speaking friends were led around by a French-speaking tour guide.

Rosie did well paying close attention and asking so many questions that the guide eventually had to ask, "Does anyone else have a question?"

Gareth was largely bored but liked a few of the sculptures. I was just happy he didn't walk out of the tour.

Personally I don't get much out of the Hirshhorn and can't believe people go in here with so many other good things to see nearby. Maybe if you were stuck on a desert island and the only structure to take shelter in was the Hirshhorn (okay, I have to admit... it's a very cool building), then I could see wandering through and looking at the art, at least until it stopped raining.

mini Lady Avalanche

Rosie and Colleen found a tiny toy rabbit that looks like Rosie's recently departed rabbit, Lady Avalanche. Rosie happily took the toy and made this home for it.

Avery's chalk drawings

Avery has begun drawing suddenly. She is now drawing people and animals all the time. I think the figure on the right either has a big beard or is upside down and has a lot of hair.

Maybe the other marks are her letters. She's sometimes interested and sometimes afraid of learning her ABC's.

(Avery says it's fishies. "Blub, blub, blub, blub..." she clarified.)

Spydo

This is Spydo, one of Gareth's monsters. I enjoy taking the cool ideas that spin out of Gareth's head and drawing them. Look at a few posts before this one to see the original drawing.

More monsters from Gareth

Gareth continues to create new monsters and name them. I told my cousin Rob that I love to take his wild ideas and render them up in my style. The one on the right would be particularly nightmarish. Note that it has mouths instead of eyes.

Rosie's drawings

Rosemary wanted to show how her experiences and what she's been doing in art. She made this pot. It all started out when Rosemary went to church. She got this idea from a girl named Hannah.

Rosie's been trying to paint better trees. She's been studying their branches and trying to see what makes them look like real trees.

This is called Rainy Tree. Rosie or Rosemary made this picture when she was 7. She named this Rainy Tree cause she thought that it was a good name cause she put three coats of paint on it (it's true).

Avery and Rosie are funny

Rosie was trying to find a good story in her Disney storybook for bedtime. I was just flipping through the pages but she took the book explaining that you could use the Table of Confidence to see all the stories (and know what page they started on).

Avery is getting into the Beatles and was demanding to hear "Lucy in the Sky-mens".
